renovations

Planning a home renovation of any size can feel like a huge undertaking. At Shawn Norman Interiors, we pride ourselves on guiding clients though each step with care and professionalism. Honest and transparent communication helps maintain a strong, trusting relationship between us and our clients so there are as few unforeseen surprises along the way as possible.

All renovation projects follow a structured itinerary from start to finish. This allows us to develop an appropriate completion timeline and gives clients several checkpoints to follow their projects progression.

site CONSULTATION

An initial designer/client site meeting where we conduct a walkthrough of the spaces in scope and learn about the clients wants and needs. A project program is developed and, depending on the size of the project, a survey of the current conditions is taken. For larger projects, a followup appointment is scheduled to record a detailed site survey.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

Development of beginner schematic plans occurs with proposed space plan blocking. Concept inspiration boards with preliminary FF&E and color scheme direction are created and shared with the client for feedback through either a digital review package or an in-person meeting. Decisions made at this stage are fleshed out during the next phase.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Floor plans are refined and scaled design drawings are completed with specified material and finish callouts. Presentation moodbaords and renderings are developed, along with a preliminary design budget for purchasing. A formal design presentation is held where the client and designer meet to review, discuss and confirm all proposed selections. Follow up revision meetings are scheduled as needed.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS & CONTRACTING

The approved floorplans are edited into construction documents which are used to any necessary work permits prior to demolition, as well as bids from contractors to complete the work. These drawings are also stamped by the Architect of Record, and finally expedited though the Department of Building, ensuring the project is greenlit and construction can begin.

CONSTRUCTION & PROCUREMENT

Full project construction commences, with demolition and reconstruction of all spaces in scope. Shawn Norman Interiors handles all site management on the clients’ behalf and acts as liaison between the client and contractor. Weekly progress reports are submitted to clients, keeping them abreast of their projects’ status. Simultaneously, approved FF&E specifications are ordered and held until needed for site installation.

FINAL WALKHOUGH & PUNCHLIST REVIEW

Once construction and installation are complete, designers will do a final walkthrough with the clients and tabulate a punch list of any outstanding items or additional requests the clients have.
